and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. for the first album ever being released on ki we invited biodub, a producer/dj from the north of germany, who impressed us with his fusion of dub, techno, electronica and is a musician throughout. bringing in his experience as the drummer of instrumental band noetics and based on a minimalistic foundation, his tracks are playful in a microscopically way. in between deep bass lines and characteristic dub chords, various sounds coming from field recording sessions and sometimes also acoustic instruments, making this piece of music extremely warm and alive. biodub tries to transform visual impressions into his music. he finds most of these impressions in nature but sometimes also in machines or buildings in connection with their environment. the album is equally comfortable on the dance floor as in the living room. but you would rather enjoy his music on an open field in the nature than on your couch. the album will be released as a full 2 x12 inch lp, and cd in folded hardcover with photography, graphic and layout coming from ki s amélie kai and since it leaves so much space for interpretation, there will be a 12 inch-single with remixes of stereociti and koi.

reissue - cass mccombs, singer-songwriter born in northern california in 1977 and currently residing somewhere in that state, is set to release wit’s end, his fifth-and-a-half album and third on domino, on april 11th. the result of two years recording in various homes and studios in california, new york, new jersey and chicago, wit’s end was produced by cass with ariel rechtshaid, with whom he also created catacombs.sounds that conjure the colors purple and black, this is his darkest record to date. it seems he is going deeper into the mania of a man buried alive inside his self-made catacombs, banging the stone walls, crying to be let out, and enjoying the quiet away from the outside world. however, he is not a man afraid of his own shadow, for in this environment of complete darkness, no shadows can be cast. this is a world of total feeling. here, words become a catalyst away from the slavery of arbitrary thought and toward feeling.

anyone who advertises on their facebook site that they create music for dogs while working under the name dachshund must have a sense of humor. and indeed, it seems the swiss dj, producer and label boss doesnt think much of sterile production and is prepared to use his sence of passion and fun to create rhythms of every kind in his work. perhaps this is a legacy of dashshunds musical roots: in the 90s he played in various reggae bands, which eventually took him to jamaica. from the sunny islands he brought back a dub influence which can still be heard in his music today. he has already proven, with his highgrade debut on the >group of connected heads compilation, his feeling for up-beat, bouncy rhythms. nothing has changed with his first solo release on highgrade. groovy, original and funky, it booms from the speakers. that the first track is called >stand firm<, must be due to the humor of dachshund: the beats immediately encourage you to do the exact opposite… shake your booty!

composite family welcomes feygin, a guy influenced by prince, the beatles. louie vega, jimpster, herbie hancock, jazztronik, dop, will smith, billy joel and woddy allen. he loves anything that flows smoothly, whether its into his ear or into his belly. feygin comes from a family where everyone played some sort of instruments. yet, he never learned to play anything himself. about 2 years ago he decided he will make dance music, or his own interpretation of it. so far he is doing well. you can call his style an eclectic mix of dance music and its various sub genres. as long as it grooves, feygin is on it. at some point in his life, he d like to be able to collaborate with real live musicians, and really push dance music to its boundaries
